Baku, 16 November 2024 – Three new market assessment reports, aimed to help accelerate clean energy transition in developing countries and commissioned by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)’s Accelerate-to-Demonstrate (A2D) Facility, were launched at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The reports focus on smart energy & industrial decarbonization, clean hydrogen and critical minerals. They provide a wealth of new evidence, analysis and insights on accelerating clean energy innovation in developing countries.
The launch events, held at the COP29 UNIDO Pavilion “Industry Solutions for People and Planet Hub” brought together policymakers, industry leaders and academic experts to engage with the findings of these reports. The market assessments were produced in collaboration with KPMG (Smart Energy and Industrial Decarbonization), Hinicio (Clean Hydrogen) and Columbia University (Critical Minerals) with funding from the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
UNIDO’s Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director, Ciyong Zou, highlighted the urgency of accelerating clean energy innovations and fostering international cooperation. “To meet the 1.5°C climate goal, we must develop, demonstrate and scale innovative cleantech solutions at an unprecedented pace,” he said, underlining the A2D Facility’s key role in driving these innovations and forging crucial partnerships for sustainable and inclusive industrial development.
The market assessment reports highlight the pivotal role of innovation in critical minerals, clean hydrogen, and smart energy and industrial decarbonization solutions in driving climate action and sustainable development.
